Lands' End

So, white shirts, they're all the same right? Wrong!

The plain white shirt should be a staple of every mans wardrobe. An item that can be dressed up, dressed down and never looks out of place. My quest to find a quality, well-priced white shirt has been an ongoing one for quite some time. But now it's over!

Lands' End have called upon over 30 years of tailoring experience in their new MadeToWork campaign, a collection of formal shirts that encompass quality, endurance and value for money.

The focus of the collection is fit, performance, endurance and price, and Lands' End have excelled in all of these categories!

The shirts are available in a number of fits, a wide variety of colours, patterns and collar types, as well as 2 sleeve lengths in the long sleeve (handy for those of us less endowed in the arm length area!), and the option to emboss, a feature which I have embraced whole heartedly!

I have 4 of the slim fit shirts, and the fit is excellent, probably the best fitting I have ever had! Made from Supima cotton, each shirt is soft, smooth and extremely durable. Lands' End will even guarantee each shirt for 30 washes, how many other companies will do that?

Priced at £29.95 or 4 for £100, the shirts are extremely reasonable for the quality you are getting.

Currently celebrating their 50th birthday, Lands' End have been at the forefront of quality for half a century and, if their new range is anything to go by, they'll easily be around for another half, providing us with superior quality, service and value for money!

Sorry!!!

Im useless at this blogging malarkey! I've been so busy with my actual job that documenting my menswear travels has fallen by the wayside AGAIN!

Anyway, last week was busy! I attended numerous press days, events and parties. If you follow my twitter and instagram (if you don't, why not?!), then you will have seen some of the amazing sights I saw last week.

Let's start with press days! French Connection, Dune, Office, Clarks, Bill Amberg, New Look menswear, Cadenzza and the Communication store , a PR company that represent a plethora of high end brands including Salvatore Ferragamo and Belstaff to name but a few.

Like I said, busy busy busy!

All of these were present the SS14 collections, and I implore you to check out my other social feeds for my favourite picks of the bunch.

The party of the week went to Furla, and the re-launch of their brand new store on Regents Street. Guests included Pixie Geldof, James Blunt, Rosie Fortescue, Jamie Winstone and Bip Ling! The champagne was flowing, canapés were offered by waiters (who were models in their spare time...) and the tunes were smashing, a collection of Pixie Geldofs faves!

Be sure to check out twitter and instagram (@oneyounggent on both) for pics!

Shine a light!

So I was wandering around the streets of Mayfair in the rain a while back, as you do, and I looked down. My Zara double monks were looking a bit drab! Lucky for me, Shoeshine UK, an artisan shoeshine and patina service based in the lobby of the Hilton on Park Lane, was on hand to help.

One man and his box of tricks, Stephen Skippen, has a real passion for shoe care. His ambition is to change the way people look at shoe care forever.

Using only his hands, no brushes, Stephen is more like a sculptor than the clichéd image of a shoeshine, caressing my monks back to life. After burning off any loose threads, Stephen treated the leather to some waterproofing to avoid the hated salt marks reappearing!

Don't think it stops with a polish either, Stephen proceeded to add complimenting touches of darker polish to the tan leather, adding shading and depth to the shine, something if never seen done before and it is truly an art!

To finish it off the shoes were and buffed with special clothes to a mirror shine! I have never had a shoe shine before, and after this impeccable service, I don't know how I've lasted this long!!

His skills arent limited to an amazing shine either. Shoeshine UK can recolour any pair of shoes to any colour you like, using the worlds finest (and most expensive!) leather dyes, breathing new life into any pair of sad old shoes you may have lying in the back of your wardrobe!

This isn't just a passing fad, the re-emergence of sartorial elegance has led to a surge in business for Shoeshine UK. Not that they needed it, having been based in the Hilton for over 13 years now, they have a client base that spans VIPs, celebrities and high profile business men, as well as fashion enthusiats and passing trade.

If your shoes are looking tired, or even if you just fancy sitting in a plush chair in a fancy hotel for 10 minutes, get your butts down there and check it out!

Back to black?

No!

This is my one man mission to eradicate black socks from every mans wardrobe/chest of drawers. With one exception, extremely formal events (funeral, black tie dinner/dance etc.)

I am starting a sock revolution! If any of you have been following me in instagram you'll have noticed I'm not afraid of a, shall we say, lively sock/shoe combination.

I am a firm believer in using flashes of colour, patterns and textures to lift an outfit from good, into the arena of the great. For example, a black suit is fine, we all know a man looks at his best in a well tailored suit. But.... add into that a colourful sock, a complimenting pocket square, a textured tie? Now that is a whole new ball game!

These little touches, even if they are only glimpsed briefly in the case of a sock, show an insight into your personality, and elevate an otherwise ordinary (no doubt very nice) outfit, into a great, stylish and all together personal look.

Agree? Then join my #sockrevolution on twitter and instagram and show everyone else your sock game!

It's been a while!

Hi guys and gals!

Apologies for the lapse in time since my last post! Has been a hectic time up in merseyside, with new job acquiring and interior decorating, my fashion adventuring has taken a slight back seat!

But fear not! I am back, with fire in my belly ready to scale the walls (metaphorically, honestly I won't scale walls to get into shindigs, by invitation only...) of the menswear world.

Keep your eyes peeled for a few features coming in the next couple if days. A few very exciting things including a challenge by Lands End.
